Ah, the lovely summer. Birds chirping in my windows wake me at the wee hours, reminding me that the sun is already shining down at 6am. The flood of anxiety to make the most of this blessed time of year is already upon me, and invitations are pouring in to parties, mixers, and the like. There is so much to celebrate. Pride has everyone excited, including every fortune 500 in town, as they all seem to anxiously spend their dividends on drink for the revelers to prove how valuable or expendable incomes really are. But, this summer has a strange looming cloud, as it will sadly mark the end of an era, and the beginning of another. More

On Tuesday morning I woke up a little extra early, brushed my teeth and put on a Polo shirt. I never wear such Wasp attire, so it should come as some surprise that I wore a collar. Even though the bartender at MoneyShot Mondays was hell bent to get me drunk, I managed my way out of the door before 8:30, and took to the road. I got to City Hall just in time to watch as the first married couples started streaming out of the landmark building, to throngs of cheers, tears and overall merriment. More

Another week has passed, with the July gloom that has plagued the city close at hand. While the skies where grey, the hearts of many seemed all fired up. The contrast was striking. All over town it seemed that folks where getting read to make a raucous, which is just how I like it! I shopped and shopped, looking tirelessly for weekend outfits, and even finding some fun looks. My love of cape sleeves overcame me as I sashayed my way toward the weekend. More

There was something in the air at the start of the weekend. It was Thursday, and things just didn’t seem right. The weather was turning around, but something felt looming. I needed to hit the road, and I wasn’t the only one. I was just in Guerneville, but the city fog and gloom sent me hightailing it back for an event amidst the pines and blooming dahlia’s that I had been looking forward to for weeks. I packed a bag and plopped down on the couch to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, and avoided the hustle and bustle of Friday in the city to instead spend my time with the rest of the world. More

Life Goes On
By w. matthews (Aug 30, 2008)
Oh, what a strange and life-changing month it has been in the world of SF gays. So much has changed; so much has stayed the same. At least this time, its more than just the weather. August, as usual, is a frenzied time. It is the season of back to school shopping, burning man savings, and the final days of white shoes and linen. Since I hate linen, I am happy to see it almost over. But, as a lover of tans and trannies, I have much to mourn as autumn rolls around. More

In the midst of a heat wave, one would expect the normal spattering of short-short clad gays frolicking about shirtless. Yet, over the past week, as the temperatures skyrocketed to record highs, there was a lull in the streets. It seemed like we missed the memo, when in fact it was only the most flamboyant roustabouts that where missing. It turns out that a little color goes along way. More

It was the hottest week of the year in San Francisco. It was in the high eighties to low nineties -- one day it was rumored to have broken one hundred degrees -- and the folks around town were showing it. When it’s a hot day in San Francisco, people always say that "this is the hottest day on record in history." If it is an unseasonable 70, it’s the hottest it’s ever been. These hot days are to be cherished, though admonished by some, fore the anomalies they are, and thankfully there was plenty of cause to celebrate. More

It was a grey Tuesday morning as I sat in my bed, smoking a cigarette out the window and watching the entire American Market collapse on the morning news. From the Lehman Brothers to the AIG, everything was collapsing, and I was unnerved. Shootings in the Mission, dead bicyclists in the Richmond, and me in the midst of fighting with my partner left an unsettling wrench in my gut. I started wondering, am I the only one going through this? Then I thought back about the week and realized how not alone I was. More

It always seems to be the way in September. Just as we begin to think that summer is about to hang its ugly head, it comes back with a vengeance! Is it autumn trying to boast its glory, or simply that Mother Nature loves the attention from the gays? Either way, it seems, there is still plenty to celebrate in this changing of the seasons, and with the leather flag flying over Castro there is a true changing of the guard. More

Oh what a whirl! Since the last time we spoke, the stock market crashed, the world seemed to tumble towards its demise, and I tried my hardest not to get a nasty rash with no avail. After the craziness from Wall Street to Folsom Street, I could barely sit up to make it to my computer screen and send out this message to you! However, as you can tell, I somehow muddles through! More
