Reap it, Reap it Good
By Matt Forsman (Mar 05, 2007)
Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank) is a disillusioned Christian missionary who’s commitment to Christianity has been supplanted by her commitment to debunking alleged religious "miracles". Right away it becomes all too clear that whatever transpires in The Reaping is going to involve some kind of reclamation of Katherine’s lost faith. Nothing serves as a catalyst for reclaiming one’s faith like a good, old fashioned reaping.More

Raucous and frank, The Trucks self-titled debut album barrels along with 13 tracks that are infused with a distinctively frustrated female flavor not completely dissimilar from the Donnas and to a lesser extent, Hole. These young women from Bellingham, Washington admittedly have a certain air of frustration that gives an edge to some of the tracks and the subject matter explored is not completely disinteresting, but it’s likely better efforts lie ahead for the Trucks.More
There is No Truth
By Matt Forsman (Feb 29, 2007)
Despite all of the news coverage of death, atrocity, and tragedy coming out of Iraq, the war often seems surreal and distant. Director Philip Haas (Angels and Insects) does something remarkable in bringing the war to the big screen in The Situation. Filmed exclusively in Iraq, one truly does get a vivid sense of just how dire "the situation" has become.More
The Future’s So Bright...
By Matt Forsman (Feb 29, 2007)
Lewis is a thirteen-year old orphan with a passion for inventing things. One would think Lewis’ creativity and intelligence would draw countless prospective parents to him. If only this was the case. After meeting countless prospective parents and logging more fruitless interviews than a room full of the recently downsized, Lewis (voiced by Daniel Hansen), elects to focus his energies on creating a machine that will help him remember his birth mother and win the science fair in the process. As is usually the case, such fateful decisions open the doors to a remarkable adventure.More
Hell Hath No Fury Like the Patriot Betrayed
By Matt Forsman (Feb 29, 2007)
Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) is a sniper (aka shooter) whose skill is unequaled. Capable of hitting his prey from a staggering distance in the most difficult conditions, his unparalled ability is only matched by his patriotism and loyalty to the United States. However, a job gone awry results in the death of his partner and the US labels Swagger expendable leaving him to his own devices to survive certain death.More

Swimming in sensuality, the fantastic, and the romantic Extraordinary Rendition is an album that enchants from the outset. A Big, Hairy Conundrum
By Matt Forsman (Feb 20, 2007)
The tagline for Blood and Chocolate is enough to make the blood curdle. "Everyone has two lives. The one we show the world. And the one that was never meant to be seen." God, how horrifying it would be if people could actually see me in my boxers, disheveled hair, and ratty t-shirt while pounding out my reviews! Fortunately, I will never tell anyone about this and no one will ever see me in this state.More
The Great British Teen 80s Flick that Never Was
By Matt Forsman (Feb 15, 2007)
Brian Jackson (James McAvoy) is a young man who is a charming mix of complete, utter naiveté and an enormous storehouse of random factoids. The former quality is largely due to his sheltered upbringing in working class Essex. Brian’s vast store of random factoids is largely a result of the countless hours spent watching UK’s version of "Jeopardy", "University Challenge" as a child. The utility of Brian’s knowledge and the depths of his naiveté are put to the test as he heads off to Bristol University in Starter for 10.More
800,000 killed in 10 days
By Matt Forsman (Feb 15, 2007)
In April of 1994, a secondary school in Kigali, Rwanda became a refugee camp for thousands of Tutsi citizens as the Hutu militia initiated genocide against the Tutsis. Beyond the gates of this school, the Hutus taunted the Tutsis and angrily waved machetes menacingly. A UN peacekeeping force struggled to keep the Hutus at bay and the Tutsis safe. Five days later the UN peacekeeping force left and virtually all of the Tutsis were slaughtered.More
Released on Iceage Cobra, 2/13/07
By Matt Forsman (Feb 09, 2007)
The Seattle based rock band, Iceage Cobra suffers no lack of confidence or swagger in the release of their tongue in cheek album, Brilliant Ideas from Amazing People. This kind of boldness is almost endearing coming from a young, relatively unproven band brimming with bluster and bravado. That being said Iceage Cobra is more than just bark. They bring a reasonable amount of bite as well. For those who thirst for their rock straight up, Brilliant Ideas from Amazing People brings it in spades.More
