SF Station Blows It Up With the roar of the crowd and the beat of the drum the Artic Monkeys hit the stage at the San Francisco’s famed Warfield. These kids from Sheffield, England are the talk of the music world, with their simple lyrics and infectious instruments. This night was no different -- kids screamed and the Monkeys played. I personally can't relate to the lyrics but understand why others can so that’s why these kids are a band to watch in the coming years.More
SF Station Blows It Up The Fillmore played host to The Fiery Furnaces on this warm night in San Francisco. The crowd was made up of hipster kids with their cool hair and slick cloths, and people that were dressed in full masquerade garb. Standing in the middle of this crowd I had a feeling this might be good one and I have to admit that it was. With their dashes of folk, garage rock and a heavy European sound, they opened my eyes and ears and made me get lost in their lyrics.More
SF Station Blows It Up To be fair, the only reason I went to see The Panic Channel was to see Dave Navarro. I thought this was going to be like his solo project Speared but I soon realized it was nothing like it. Looking at the band I realized it was 3/4 Jane’s Addiction with Stephen Perkins on the drums and Chris Chaney on the bass but with a new addiction of Steve Isaacs on the Vox. To put it simply these guys killed it with stage presence, vocals and amazing drums and guitar. This was an all around show with Steve driving the fans into a frenzy and Navarro just being Navarro with chicks grabbing at his junk. So take a chance and watch The Panic Channel.More
SF Station Blows It Up I came in to the Indie this past Thursday to have some fun and watch some people play some guitar, well, air guitar. The rules of this contest are simple: two rounds, round one you get to pick any song and round two every one does 60 sec of a song chosen by the judges. It was a drunken night of air guitar, insults and insanity...More
SF Station Blows It Up To celebrate The SF Weekly's "Best of the Bay", Mezzanine threw a party with hip hop's new sweetheart The Coup. The critically acclaimed MC hit the stage with a vengeance performing songs from his new album Pick A Bigger Weapon. The crowd went wild with every lyric and strum of the bass guitar. The mixture was between hip hop, rock and funk and the influences of groups like Dead Prez and Public Enemy were masterfully conducted by the talented MC. So step on the dance floor and open your ears and check out The Coup.More
SF Station Blows It Up Thomas Dolby is one of synth-pop's early-'80s new wave stars and the man behind the hit "She Blinded Me with Science". Now in 2006, Dolby has a little less hair, but he's definitely as inventive as ever. Obviously older, Dolby's only gotten better with time.More
SF Station Blows It Up Supporting Fall Out Boy on the The Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour the All American Rejects hit the stage in front of a sold out crowd. The Rejects know how to drive a crowd crazy with their simple lyrics and cords. When I looked into the eyes of the fans that were screaming and dancing I could see their obsession and the band's ability to entrance them. Tyson (lead vocals) and Nick's (guitar) synergy on stage is shown through their intense performance.More
SF Station Blows It Up Japanese bands know how to rock a crowd and make them feel every note. TsuSuMaMiRe, whose sound mixes a little bit of punk, funk and plain rock and roll, consists of three chicks and wow do they put it down . The mix of sound that these girls created that night even made me stomp my feet ..... so if you get a chance, go and check them out.More
SF Station Blows It Up Belle and Sebastian rocked the Concourse at San Francisco Design Center and it was a show to see. In front of a sold out crowd dancing and screaming to every song they proved why they are the kings of stage. With vocals lead by Stuart and guitar rhythms by Stevie, they performed songs from their brand new album The Life Pursuit as well as past hits. Stuart's vocals have this uncanny ability to entrance the crowd and make them simply follow him to the end of the world like the "Pied Piper".More
SF Station Blows It Up Walking in to the Fillmore is always a pleasure. The legendary venue has hosted music royalty from Prince to Beck so seeing Elefant live on this same stage was definitely a treat. They performed tracks from their forthcoming new album The Black Magic Show. With their own type of rock and roll and a melodic energy that seems to infect peoples minds and make them scream, the boys rocked the house. Even though Diego Garcia(vocals) had a hurt leg he still managed to be get himself moving around and getting the fans to dance.More
