SF Station Blows It Up The French are back and they’re bright and loud and nowhere was this more apparent than at last Thursday's Justice show in San Francisco. There was a crazy light show that rivaled the biggest bands, and beats that that drove the sold out crowd out of their minds. I must say the show did date me a little because it reminded me of my rave days with kids just dancing all night long for fun and just letting themselves go to the music. The duo is something to watch but def bring earplugs and your dancing shoes.More
SF Station Blows It Up The night started out great for me last Thursday with some drinks and some good beats and man did it end well, with The Switches and most of all The Pigeon Detectives. The Pigeon Detectives kicked some serious ass with tunes that made you want to freak out and scream. There was so much energy on stage it felt like they were powering their own instruments and the ultimate cog was vocalist Matt who I think must have only taken one breath the entire time that he ripped through the stage.More
SF Station Blows It Up This being my second SXSW in a row I kind of knew what to expect with crazy lines and over 1500 bands. You have to pick your battles and I must say I did -- and won. The first one was a band from the UK called Does It Offend You, Yeah? Who, with an almost slight of hand, made an entire club stand up and dance. With catchy electro beats and infectious personalities the boys stomped all over my head.More
SF Station Blows It Up As unorthodox of a show as it gets, Port O’Brian played last Friday at the Diesel store. It was great and even without a P.A. the band just killed it, making the crowd dance and scream. With banjo blaring, drums hitting, guitars rumbling and Van Pierszalowski's voice echoing through the store I don’t think there was one person that didn’t have a great time.More
SF Station Blows It Up I don’t really write about DJs too often but when I saw that Pete Rock was performing I knew it was a must see show. With his first record on the tables he made the crowd stomp their feet. In the age of Serato and the laptop you rarely get to see DJs use albums; Rock was nothing but smooth transitions, spinning his own classics and other crowd favorites. Oh -- and he is also a great hype man -- and got on the mic at times to get the crowed jumping.More
SF Station Blows It Up Man did I have a hell of a Valentines night… my girlfiend had to work so I decided to take some gigs well 3 to be precise with 3 different artst at 3 diffirent venues. But the last stop on my tour -- The Kills -- were the highlight of the evening. The British duo celebrated their 6th anniversary at Popscene and were brilliant. Their ability to create sounds and lyrics that are one-of-a kind is uncanny and only matched by their stage presence.More
SF Station Blows It Up I guess ATL is not only known for producing great hip hop and if you know who the Black Lips are you would know that. Last Friday night The Black Lips showed what psychedelic punk is all about with an amazing performance in front of a sold out crowd. The foursome knows how to rock and turned the crowd into a hurricane of hands, feet and sound.More
SF Station Blows It Up UK punk outfit The Gallows hit the stage in front of an eager crowd ready to rage. I knew something was off from the first word out of Frank Carter's mouth because he was standing still. Although the rest of the boys were, in their usual fashion, going nuts as soon as the first song was over, Frank explained that he had a really bad fall at their L.A. show and could barely stand…and because they didn’t want to cancel the show the crowd was going to have to deal with him not being too active. Putting all that aside the show was still great with The Gallows showing what UK Punk is all about.More
SF Station Blows It Up Electronic genius Dan Deacon brought it last Thursday night to the Great American and it was one hell of a party. He opened the show by first getting the entire place to get on their knees and then he put down some seriously great beats. It was an interactive experience including a dance-off/pose-off and a soul train.More
SF Station Blows It Up British songstress Kate Nash graced the stage at Popscene last Saturday in front of a sold out crowd and pulled out all the stops. Kate Nash’s distinctive storytelling style of song, her quirky voice and great guitar and keyboard performance made me a fan that night. With a great backing band she injected something in the air that made everyone sing along and scream.More
