SF Station Blows It Up

The world's most branded festival returned to the Shoreline last Saturday with some heavy hitters: The Cure, AFI, BRMC, She Wants Revenge, Metric and Kings of Leon, just to name a few. I don’t really know how many people actually came to the show; it looked mellow but all the bands did a great job.More

The UK’s Editors returned to The Fillmore in front of a sold out crowd and did what they do best: rocked. The show being one of the last shows on this leg of their US tour promoting the new album An End Has a Start, you would think the boys would slack but they brought it full force with songs like “An End Has a Start” and “Munich” that show not only Tom’s amazing vocals but the rest of the boys' musical skills.More

Trying to get into the crowd to get a good spot to shoot The Sounds should have been a sign of things to come with fans squished to the front of the stage and air so hot that from the first set I was sweating. Being at the front when Maja and the boys hit the stage was pretty amazing because it felt like I was standing inside a wave that moved from side to side. With songs like “Living in America” and “Ego” the crowed was swept into an almost epileptic trance. So if you have never seen these guys I really think you should.More

Jenny Lewis and the gang kicked off their tour at The Warfield last Thursday night with Johnathan Rice and the Grand Ole Party promoting their new album Under the Blacklight. Performing classic songs and new stuff that was more dance disco with a rock beat, they took the place down.More

Popscene does it again with the first ever live appearance by Blaqk Audio. The brainchild of AFI’s Davey Havok and Jade Puget rocked 330 Ritch last Thursday night. Kids flew in from all over the US and camped outside of the tiny venue for hours just to be in the front row, being in the front myself they got their money’s worth. The boys performed music from their debut album CexCells out now.More

Slayer returned to the Bay on a co-headlining tour with Marilyn Manson last Thursday night and in true metal fashion rocked out. They performed songs from their current album Christ Illusion, and from the first note out the crowd went nuts. I could see that Tom Araya and the boys were feeding off the crowd and playing harder and harder with every song.More

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs played a very special small venue set in San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore last Tuesday night and as always destroyed it. With Karen’s amazing stage presence, Nick's guitars licks and Brian’s unstoppable drums the trio drove the crowd wild. Being right at the front for the first three songs was a very interesting thing because from the first word out of Miss O’s mouth I could feel the entire crowd surge forward. If you didn’t make it into the building you missed out a few costume changes and even some new tunes from The Is Is EP out in stores now.More

The Redwalls are a product of The Windy City and they proved it last Friday at Du Nord with a sound that mixed the Beatles with the Ramones and Bob Dylan with Joy Division. Logan Baren’s voice and guitar and his brother Justin’s vocals and bass drive you to listen, dance and scream all at once.More

The Kentucky foursome return with a new album Bring on the Comets, released August 28th, and a badass visit to San Francisco last week. The boys performed new songs almost exclusively only breaking a few times to play their hits from their last record. As always Craig Pfunder’s voice and guitar pushes sound to its limit and makes you stomp your feet.More

The last time I shot these kids from the UK was opening for The Bravery at the Fillmore and it was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen and this time was even better. From the first step that vocalist Paul Smith took to the last hit of the bass drum of Tom English it was a non stop party. Paul’s amazing words and acrobatics would make even a Cirque du Soleil acrobat envious, and the rest of the band plays like they were born with instruments in their hands.More
