Editorial Review Poleng Lounge Southeast Asian Street Food Infused with Tea and Grooves By Chrissy Loader (12/21/2006)" Located in the space that housed 1751 Social Club (and Storyville before that), Poleng Lounge is a tea house, food Mecca, and dance club all in one. This means experiencing the sounds of trickling water and the scent of fine tea leaves, before being hit with the bluster of seven dancing girls lining up against a velvet rope, waiting for entry into Poleng’s Temple Room. Editorial Review 1751 Social Club Fancied-up Pub Food Set to Music By Michelle de Grasse (10/28/2005)" The last time I visited 1751 Social Club, I surmised that I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. It was good fare, but the overall experience didn't blow me away, nor did it blow me back in. Former reviewers had been similarly nonplussed by trips to 1751 Social Club, reinforcing the idea that the space that once housed the ill-fated Creole/jazz/hip-hop supper club, Storyville, was somehow cursed. Editorial Review 1751 Social Club Where Anything (and Everyone) Goes By Mandy Kemp (12/10/2004)" 1751 Social Club, located in the Fulton Street building formerly occupied by the Creole restaurant and hip-hop club Storyville, was a mystery to us. Considering the slew of "Best of CitySearch" awards that were claimed in 2004 by the tiny, seemingly obscure spot in a quiet, residential neighborhood, we couldn’t help but wonder what all the fuss was about. With just the right amount of kitsch, a menu full of nicely-priced comfort food, and a happening club scene to boot, the mystery quickly dissolved. 1751 is aptly named; it’s a social gathering space with vibrant personality, giving it true mass appeal.
