Life Goes On
By W. Matthews (Jul 30, 2008)
Oh, what a strange and life-changing month it has been in the world of SF gays. So much has changed; so much has stayed the same. At least this time, its more than just the weather. August, as usual, is a frenzied time. It is the season of back to school shopping, burning man savings, and the final days of white shoes and linen. Since I hate linen, I am happy to see it almost over. But, as a lover of tans and trannies, I have much to mourn as autumn rolls around.More

There was something in the air at the start of the weekend. It was Thursday, and things just didn’t seem right. The weather was turning around, but something felt looming. I needed to hit the road, and I wasn’t the only one. I was just in Guerneville, but the city fog and gloom sent me hightailing it back for an event amidst the pines and blooming dahlia’s that I had been looking forward to for weeks. I packed a bag and plopped down on the couch to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, and avoided the hustle and bustle of Friday in the city to instead spend my time with the rest of the world.More

Another week has passed, with the July gloom that has plagued the city close at hand. While the skies where grey, the hearts of many seemed all fired up. The contrast was striking. All over town it seemed that folks where getting read to make a raucous, which is just how I like it! I shopped and shopped, looking tirelessly for weekend outfits, and even finding some fun looks. My love of cape sleeves overcame me as I sashayed my way toward the weekend.More

On Tuesday morning I woke up a little extra early, brushed my teeth and put on a Polo shirt. I never wear such Wasp attire, so it should come as some surprise that I wore a collar. Even though the bartender at MoneyShot Mondays was hell bent to get me drunk, I managed my way out of the door before 8:30, and took to the road. I got to City Hall just in time to watch as the first married couples started streaming out of the landmark building, to throngs of cheers, tears and overall merriment.More

Ah, the lovely summer. Birds chirping in my windows wake me at the wee hours, reminding me that the sun is already shining down at 6am. The flood of anxiety to make the most of this blessed time of year is already upon me, and invitations are pouring in to parties, mixers, and the like. There is so much to celebrate. Pride has everyone excited, including every fortune 500 in town, as they all seem to anxiously spend their dividends on drink for the revelers to prove how valuable or expendable incomes really are. But, this summer has a strange looming cloud, as it will sadly mark the end of an era, and the beginning of another.More

With summer seemingly officially upon us, I spent a good part of my weekend dusting off my "clothing normally inappropriate for a San Francisco day" trunk and reminisced over what June has meant in San Francisco for the past half-decade. It normally triggers the resurgence of the Eagle Beer Bust, the return of the ever-stereotypical mesh tank, and the kick-off for the annual Gay Pride celebration, proving that Modesto has proud fags, too. They just like their vacations set almost entirely to a soundtrack of obnoxious house music and Crystal Waters throwbacks. Get ready fags, Pride is heading down the pass.More

I am sure that it wasn't just me, since I after all was one of the many this past weekend, but did anyone else notice that everyone was gone for the holiday? It seems like all the people that I asked about Memorial Weekend blacked out on Friday and came to on Monday. Were the few, the proud, and the nearly sober hibernating for the weekend? Not likely. It seems that everyone took their stimulus package to the four corners of the country sharing the SF gay party with our brethren from across the country.More

I need a coffee to keep up ladies and gents! Well, gents! My tan is kicking and my mind is fried from a long hard weekend of basking in the sun! It was definitely the best weather that we are gonna get, ladies! So, I hope you made the most of it…I know I did. After all, we all know there is nothing better than the merriment that can only provided by those sunrays. I spent the weekend riding a SPF high that I couldn’t come off of until Sunday. Let discuss the highlights, shall we?More

In a matter of speaking, keeping a social profile of quality is simply a manner of keeping up appearances. One must hit the right clubs, the right events, and steer clear of the fodder and riff raff. If one is at the wrong place at that right time, they will forever be burdened with the title of creep, chaser, or wannabe. Now, if someone would have only told a certain little miss more!More

One of my favorite things about living in a city is that feeling that you never can tell what's going to happen next. In New York, you may run into supermodels and famous actors. This never tends to be the case in San Francisco. After all, San Francisco billionaires are more likely to be low key. More often than not though, the folks you run into out and about our crazy little wonderland are twice as fascinating as those Yorkers, and I think that L.A. goes without comparison; L.A. isn’t a city, it’s an experiment.More
